Youth Leaders

Nasiha is encouraging young people who possess skills, education and maturity to help students in their local mosque and madrassah. Many post-16 students and graduates have been using Nasiha resources in their local mosques and madrassahs. They have managed to deliver stimulating and interactive lessons to students. Discussions about faith, identity and citizenship have been vibrant and this kind of input and interaction can help many young Muslims to have access to positive role models so they can achieve a successful balance between celebrating their faith and living and thriving in Modern Britain.

Steps to Take if You are Interested in Supporting Your Local Mosque and Madrassah:

[1] Contact your local Mosques and Madrassah management committee, ideally the one which you attend regulary and one which represents your sectarian belief or tradition

[2] Express your interest in giving support to teachers and Imams, and ensure compliance with any Child Protection policies

[3] Suggest small workshop and sessions aroung Nasiha ACP themes of lessons.

[4] Deliver discussion and interactive style lessons, encourage participation and give insight to Islamic dimensions to discussions by using Nasiha guidance notes.

What YLs have said about Nasiha ACP lessons?

Nasiha YL: Fraz Darr

Occupation: Final Year undergraduate

Favourite Nasiha ACP lesson: Making a Positive Impression – I think young people sometimes forget what a powerful influence they can be if they can set a good example themselves.

How did Nasiha ACP lessons help you: All lessons were beneficial. The fact you learn so much yourself is a real bonus. Discussions can be challenging and guidance notes provide you with sufficient support. The ACP lessons encourage you to think: ok, so this is the Islamic teaching on the subject, how do I make this practical for myself and others.

Nasiha YL:  Shiraz Ali

Occupation: Student, final year Medicine

Favourite Nasiha ACP lesson: Respecting Teachers; feel that this is so important especially in a time where teacher`s efforts and work is not being fully appreciated. My success is owed so much to their efforts.

How did Nasiha ACP lessons help you: I know that the Nasiha materials are supported by many scholars including Mufti Hasan Raza and this gave me encouragement that the teaching and messages in the lessons are there for all to benefit. I`ve obviously benefited myself hugely by reading and familiarising myself with the lessons and guidance notes. My sessions always started informally, we identified the Islamic teachings in the lesson and then we contextualised our discussion by introducing a citizenship dimension. I think it is important that the citizenship lessons are rich in Islamic sources because this gives students a better insight to what their faith represents.

Will you continue to use Nasiha ACP?: Definitely. The lessons give you a clear sense of direction with your Islam and in today`s time, with so many confusing messages, it`s important that we follow Nasiha`s message in their lessons from all the scholars.

Nasiha YL: Iram Ashfaq

Occupation: Final year undergraduate

Favourite ACP lesson:    Charity Work – really didn’t know that the Prophet, peace be upon him, explanation of charity was so wide and included  work that benefitted animals, plants, and the environment as well as humanity.

How did Nasiha ACP lessons help you: Felt all lessons have been developed with thought and research.  I enjoyed reading the lesson and guidance notes – so even if you’re not teaching this resource is excellent for everyone. During my sessions I thought it was important to focus on the Islamic teachings first and then bring out the citizenship values – I think this way round was helpful as the students did not feels the subjects were  foreign to a mosque or madrassah environment. Some lessons can take more than a hour to deliver, but I think that’s great as long as the teaching remained stimulating.

Nasiha YL: Hamza Khan

Occupation: First year law student

Favourite ACP lesson:  ‘Oath of Peace’ – I know there was a solidarity between all the imams/scholars after 7/7 and they all said that the Sharia places a duty on Muslims  to respect the laws of the State – to see this expressed in a lesson format is going to be extremely beneficial. The lesson on ‘Loving Humanity’ is also important for everyone. As Muslims our warmth and appreciation should be actively extended to all faiths and cultures.

How did Nasiha ACP help you: The lessons are a mixture of  positive messages giving good advice where necessary. The lesson on `Friendship ’ gives you an insight to be balanced and critical and to avoid bad company. But it also teaches you to trust Islamic knowledge and teaching from qualified sources. In today’s times this is important because you don’t fall into the trap of those who want to misinterpret your faith. You can have really good discussions in each lesson. I have to applaud Nasiha on their effort on guidance notes, they were a joy to read and gave you confidence when delivering a lesson.
